This is a release by popular demand, of the first major gig by the Hounds in NYC, at Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing festival, in 1998. This is a smaller representation of the Hounds before they were doing alot of the original material they became associated with. These are covers of hard swinging classic songs, mostly instrumental, featuring the original incarnation of the band, while some of the members were still in the big band of Illinois Jacquet, and they all left shortly after this concert, as it really put the Hounds on the map! Following up on their hugely popular 1999 debut, Ghetto Swing Extreme!, The Yalloppin' Hounds have finally released their second album, New Yalloppin' City (Yallopin' Entertainment). The record features a new line up, due to the departure of former lead vocalist Queen Esther and trumpet player Lord Sledge. Lead Hound Joey Cavaseno, a.k.a. G-Clef, has combed the five boroughs of New York City to assemble a talented bunch of young replacements. With solid backing, Cavaseno once again proves that he is a masterful lyricist and jazz musician, who over the past several years has helped lead and pioneer jazz and hip-hop into what is now being referred to as "Swing-hop."
With this new album, The Great Recession, bandleader/songwriter/arranger G-Clef da Mad Komposa decided it was time to unleash a brand new classic for the times, entitled, "The Great Recession". "I wanted to invoke the mood of the Great Depression days but update it to what people around the world are feeling now, re-examining the deeply rooted connection between Swing Music and Hip-Hop," explains G-Clef.
